Winter draws near, the veil between the worlds thins and the spirits of those long gone may be reached…  Come to the Music Workshop for an evening of dark folk and psychedelic music featuring two of Folkestone’s finest folk acts to help us shelter from the storms.

Green Diesel are an acid folk band from Kent, blending the fire of traditional English balladry with the kaleidoscopic swirl of psychedelia and prog. Their sound—driven by Ellen Care’s ethereal violin and Matt Dear’s electric guitar—transforms folklore into dark sonic journeys. With five albums to date, including the UK Folk Top 40-charting After Comes The Dark and 2025’s acclaimed Onward The Sun, they’ve earned praise for both songwriting and musicianship. Live, they’ve played to audience audiences at venues like Ramsgate Music Hall, Boomtown Festival and the Cornish Bank, sharing stages with Large Plants, Fotheringay, and the New Eves.

Nick Lawrence draws from the well of traditional and contemporary folk to compose his songs. His compositions evoke images of centuries gone by, be that wassailing in the winter, the re-telling of Viking raids in Kent, or spurned love. Nick also loves audience participation and has written songs that encourage call and response from the audience.  Nick has supported award winning folk singer and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman at the Dover Booking Hall and The Noble Jacks at The Royal Tunbridge Wells Forum.  In July 2025, Nick returned from Ely Folk Festival where he was one of the winners of their Spotlight Competition which won him a slot on the main stage.
